A New Year’s Day

By Terry Golson

Did you wake up on New Year’s Day at the normal time to take care of your animals, and it wasn’t a problem, because you went to sleep at the normal time the night before? Like before 10 pm? And you were happy to get up and be greeted by your friends?

I get it.

Did you go to the barn and ride? Because who needs New Year’s brunch? Especially on a rare January first when the sun is out, the wind is warm, and the ground isn’t frozen.

I get it.

Did you set your TV to record The Tournament of Roses Parade so that when you came home you could watch just the horses and fast forward past the floats?

I get it!

What else is on your schedule today? Tell me in the comments!

Have a wonderful New Year’s Day.

Lovely Terry and makes me realize what a different life we have, I have no animal, no TV… I rely on my computer for everything.

Though for this special day, I stayed home as I celebrate Solstice and not the other festivities of this season and started to read the The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady celebrating Nature (animals, plants…) throughout the 12 months of the year. A book that is a constant companion through the days and years… Lovely illustrations and text from another period…

Living in the Northern countries, we had 28mm of ice rain starting Monday night into early this morning. Nature sure changes a lot these last years…
Nice to know you enjoyed a nicer and milder day with Tonka !

In the meantime, we have to adjust to the new life as new paradigms are put in place…

I am often reminded of your posting of the *blue jewel* you acquired and it does keep a smile on my face every time.

The best to you and your loved ones for 2019 and may you continue to share with us in the lovely way you do so well.

Well, the main thing on my list today was to get in a ride, that and eating black-eyed peas are my only New Year’s Day traditions and only the ride is not negotiable. Unfortunately, the friend I hauled over to ride with came off her mare and got seriously hurt; she’ll be at the regional teaching hospital for a few days. NOT the way I would want anyone to start the new year, and I feel terrible!

I hope your friend recovers quickly and without side-effects. I’ve been thinking that it’s time for me to retake a first aid course. I with there was one geared for equestrians.

Michelle, hoping for a speedy and complete recovery for your friend. Terry, glad you got to ride, we didn’t get to ride, cold, drizzly, muddy and anyway last day for firearms deer season.
Did go to feed the animals at the usual time, don’t go out on New Years Eve. Watched the Rose Bowl parade, and some of the Eukanuba dog show in the afternoon.

Have not celebrated New Year for over 40 years, in fact the last time I stayed up past midnight was for the Moon landing!!! My Girls are always sorted out before anything else, they do not like to be kept waiting. Please thank Steve for getting cams working, I am one who will miss the added info , so I now look at bbc world weather for where you are and remember to take of the 5 hours time difference before looking at cams. Please keep up the good work really enjoy reading about the extended family. Keeping fingers crossed you are able to find a suitable barn for Tonka. All the best for 2019 🙂
